How the heck do you tighten these belts?

1000002405.jpgI just bought two sets of these seat belts to replace the old ones on this cart. These are just like the ones I replaced. They are almost impossible to tighten and won't stay tight you you do. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?

I've ran into this before. It's cheap belts. Had a set of 4point harness that were a great price. How can you go wrong cheap. Welp. They slipped in the adjustments just like your experiencing. Bought a different set and all was well.

Looks like a full roll cage, correct?

I believe the standard rule is no belts unless a full cage. I think the idea is that’s it’s better to get tossed from a kart when it flips than to get dragged by it. Locked into a seat without a full roll cage is not where anybody wants to be when a karts flips.

I thought it was "full cage - use belts, no cage - no belts" Belts hold you in the safety of the cage, without the cage you want to be able to get clear in the event of a roll-over.

I want to see the whole kart. That driver seat looks proper.

The logo on the foam bar cover says dfmoto.
It's a Dong Feng. But I'm used to a single pad 2 seater. This one has 2 seats. I'm still gonna bet it looks very similar. A bolt together cage using poor threaded slugs for connection points. I had to weld a few on the one I work on.

This appears to be a Billet Balsa Knockoff! And a poor one at that!

Shhh, 🤫 that's why I wanted to see the whole thing. But remember, if it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid.
Looks like pressure treated pine to me.

Interesting angle on the seat belts; how can you mess up seat belts (as a manufacturer)? Very easily apparently.

Back in the early days l too bought a set of the same belts. Our experience was the same, to be followed shortly after by a total latch failure. (I was hesitant to admit to having bought those belts).
