This is my first build. I am building a kart for my kids. I have a Bristers F2-265 frame and a Honda GX240 8hp motor. That is it, nothing else. The frame i just picked up and the motor i have had a while. I am planning on keeping it simple, just something for them to ride around the homeplace. I do plan on putting larger tires all the way around as the ground is very uneven and i am sure my son will be putting it in the mud every chance he gets. all help and ideas are greatly appreciated!

What do i need to use to get the power from the motor to the wheels? i have seen torque convertors and clutches. which should i use and why?

Post a pic of the frame.
Go with a TC because you stated you want big tires. A cc will pull big tires but at the expense of speed. The tc will give you the grunt you need to pull them big tires and still have a good top speed.
How big a tire? 18"? Yeah, get a TC..... You and your son will be happy. It's gonna pull you around pretty good too, so don't be timid. Get in a ride! :auto:
Tell us exactly what you want to be able to do with the kart. What you want it to have. We will guide you to get you there...... post pics... We love pics....

I havent decided on the size of the tires yet. Quite honestly, I dont know. I know I want it to have the jacked up dune buggy look. That is what he likes. What all should I decide on before I start purchasing parts? I want to get all the parts together and then he and I will build it together. He has no idea yet.

I smell "dad of the day"........ That's awesome! He will crap his pants...... :lolgoku:
Give me a minute.... I'm at work....
EDIT
That kart had like 15" tires up front with 18" in the back, iirc. I'm not sure how much bigger you can go up front, because eventually the tire will hit the frame , at full turn. I'll check to see what the originals were for sure. Maybe you can go to an 18" skinny tire up front, like tractor tread type. Then a 20" big lug balloon type tires in the rear.
Definitely use a TC and very mild performance work on the engine, and you're both definitely going to have a lot of fun. That engine, with a TC, can pull both of you around with no problems.

What would be a good TC to use? What do I need to factor in before I buy?

Comet is the best but it will run you around $200+ for the genuine article. You can buy a china knock off, and have good results. A lot of our members use them. You can get a decent china copy for around $120....
Tire size is your only factor, with 8hp...... Don't go bigger than a 22" in back.
Measure your shaft first, and see if it's 3/4" or 1".... Should be 3/4"...... (on the engine)

EDIT

Get one with a back plate.... Will be an easier install......
