I have a 6.5hp kart with a 6:1 gear ratio. The kart wieghs aproximately 200lbs without engine or rider. Currently it tops out at about 30mph.So my question is, will a tourque converter get me more speed?, if so how much?
Or is it not worth my 200$

Thanks

Do the math? Need to know tire height too. Calculated top speed is the ABSOLUTE max, if the kart is too heavy or presents too much wind resistance for the engine the CVT will never hit OD.

I believe all the torque converter will do is help with the low end take off speed. It won't have an effect on your top speed. You could drop your ratio to 5:1 which would gain more speed and the converter will help out with the low end

With the right torque convertor, and the right setup, there can be a speed benefit. The Comet 30 (if I recall) has a .9:1 overdrive.
Another good benefit is the fact that it since it has a variable ratio, you can get away with gearing a little higher than normal, and the takeoff is still acceptable. So ultimately, you get a higher top end. Case in point- I'm geared at 4.8:1 with 17.5" (measured) tires, and I top out at 72 KM/hr. There's no way I'd be able to gear that high with a centrifugal clutch.

200lbs without engine? That's rather weighty! Give us some more info- frame design, tire size, etc. And so far, I do believe you'd benefit from a torque convertor. My kart's a big chunk of heavy metal, too.

please use the search function and google before posting. Thats like 4 useless threads you have made so far. The total top speed totally relies on your gear ratio. Of course a TC is better then a cent... Its a TC.
