How high can you go? (Gear Ratio)

Never heard or seen Power Land. Outside of being another patent infringed Honda Clone, I have no idea who makes it.

I've seen some guys put cent. clutches on 20hp engines, so never mind.
I'm willing to try a 13hp. How much could I decrease (edit: increase? Make drive sprocket smaller, 14 tooth clutch now) my gear ratio with that?

This just in: Found a Comet TAV 30 TC with a 12T sprocket and 1" shaft for $75. I don't even know if you can mount a TC to a power land.

Say I modified a predator 212 to 10hp. Could I go any higher on the ratio? Or is it all about displacement?

Prices on Ebay start around $90 for a knockoff 40 series. Would still need a jackshaft and bearings for the driven. If you go that route I'd opt for the 3/4" driven.

You can get higher HP out of an ungoverned engine. The formula is HP = Torque in ft. lbs. x engine rpm / 5252. Industrial engines are designed for good low rpm power. Honda's website show the performance curve on the GX200 and torque peaks around 2500 and starts dropping from there. To get more horsepower requires more toruqe and/or rasing the engine speed where peak torque is. Keeping some low end grunt while gaining HP starts getting expensive in a small block.

If you're already starting with a blank canvas I'd have a hard time not recommending a 420cc and series 40 or heavy duty clutch. I've got a 196cc engine with 18cc head, .265 lift cam, billet rod, aluminum flywheel, and bigger carb. There's a 420cc engine on the back porch waiting to take it's place one day.

Quick question about governor removal on the Predator. I just watched CarsAndCameras remove a governor from a 212cc.
Something I found interesting was that they took out the governor gear, but they left the governor arm, and the metal rod piece that pushed on the governor. So, they didn't have to take the gas tank off, tap, and then seal a hole, because they only took the gear out.

Anyway, then they put a spring on the governor arm and put the throttle cable on the plastic valve control piece. Seems a lot easier.

But is leaving that black metal arm that pushes the governor inside safe?

I honestly have no idea. You would think it would be OK, but i suppose the snap ring holding it on there could still come off and ruin the engine. Somebody else will chime in with their opinion

Affordable go karts recommend pulling that arm out on the GX200 Honda engines and putting a self-tapping bolt in the hole. Remember, Issac and John on CarsandCameras are doing this for entertainment purposes only and they want us to be safe and do it the right way and not Jerry rig, for the sake of cutting corners.

I'd say pull it out, just in case it moves in the way of the crank or connecting rod and ends up somehow grenading the engine...or at least make a paperweight.

They only say "It'll be fine", because they assume all responsibility if something were to happen to them.

Taking off the tank isnt a real hassle.. If anything taking off the side plate is more, cause of the oil seal. If that is damaged... it'll leak...

20% off coupons are not applicable to Predator engines.

BMI has got deals, but you really have to watch their shipping costs.

They won't take the 20% off coupon in my neck of the woods, maybe at one time HF did but now it states clearly on the coupons they're not for Predator products.

ARC flywheel, jetted carb, and better than stock cam. Parts for the 196cc on average are less than the Predator, like $20 less for a billet rod for example. Not a huge fan of the slightly shorter shaft of the Predator when used with a torque converter either.

I guess it was a 99.00 coupon I used. Read the fine printcjust now and it does say predator. They just sent out an ad for the 99.00 price not long ago. Planning on using mine to get an extra hemi as my local has 15 of em. Bmi shipping wasn't bad after I selected USPS vs UPS. Also order 6 things from clearance. Shipping was more than the parts but I still save a lot.

Weird cause I get coupons for Predator engines at least once a month or so.
