I am building a kart for the kids one is 11 the other is 9. bought a frame, had a 6 hp tecumseh, i am putting a 12 tooth and 60 tooth sprocket on. How fast should I expect to run? I also have a live axle should i install or should i keep the existing single drive we will be riding gravel roads and such. 1 more thing there is no throttle cable and no brackets have pedal on kart but nothing else what to do????????

i would put the live axel on since its an off road kart, and you just have it sitting around. i bet it can get up to at least 30, but since i know nothing about gear ratio, from what i heard that will do 50. can we have some pics of the engine? you can buy a throttle linkage kit for it, or try to hook it up yourself.

All you need now is tire diameter and max engine rpm then go to this link and punch in numbers. Engine rpm can be "ball parked". That is, if its governed figure on 3600 rpm. No governor would be about 5000 rpm or better. Given kids ages, and I would guess lack of experience, stay with governor at least for now. http://www.diygokarts.com/speed-calculator.html
