i was thinking, how expensive would it be to switch to live axle? the set up i have now is a *****, since there must be a spacer from the sprocket to the hub, it makes it difficult to get everything lined up, and now i continue to break bearing after bearing.
i have a friend that would gladly help out, and he has welders and **** like that so that shouldn't be a problem.

here is what i have so far:

i don't know what size my axle is but 1 in. diameter seems to be the most common, on northern tool a 44 in. 1 in diameter axle cost $60

i found a a bearing kit fora 1 in axle on bmi. but i remember reading on a thread that someone had only two bearing spots and they bent the axle. should i look for a third bearing?

i was looking at sprocket hubs on bmi also. i found a good looking one for $16. 6th one down

could some one fill me in on which one of these is a brake hub.

brake rotor ($28, 8th from bottom)
brake caliber ($20, 5th down)

wheel hub $19

i think i covered everything. if i missed anything please let me know. this comes out to $150 clean, without the brake hub, does this sound like a number that sounds what it should be near?

Your can take $40 off that, bmi ha 1" axle for around $20. With 1" axle you should be fine with two bearings, the one i think your talking about was 3/4".

i was looking at a bearing kit that was $53 dollars, because it came with a brake set up also. but it was band brake. and i know from reading a lot of posts that disc is 1000 times better than band so i thought if i was going to spend the money i might as well spend it on good stuff. i still don't know where i am going to make that money though haha.

wait, why is disk brake setup $25? $20 for the caliber and $25 for the rotar. and what about brake hub.

the axle will be $25 dollars because i am going to get either 40 in or 45 in. which one would be better? i think the wider would look better but what would be mechanically better?

also what about sprocket hub?

Not sure, you would have to ask the seller of the rotor how thick it is. My workshop is all packed up so i cant measure how thick a sled rotor is, but im assuming its around 3/16. Looks kind of cheap to me though.

because instead of buying all the components for a disc brake setup seperately buy them in a bundle they do sell kits for $25-30 you just have to look around

Im pretty happy with my live axle, but with a cent clutch and small engine you probably wont notice the difference besides better stopping power, and on slipped surfaces you would get better traction.
