How do you remove and reinstal a clutch on a 196cc model 200GF Loncin engine?

Hey guys im a new fellow with little engine experience. How do you take off safely and reinstall a clutch on a Loncin 4 cycle engine. Its a 196cc with automatic clutch. Scooterx thinks the clutch is bad and is sending me one under warranty. :oops:

A pic would help- but if it's anything like most of our engines...

Remove the center retaining bolt. Look closely all around the clutch (front and back) for little setscrews. There may be as many as 2. remove them, and slide clutch off.

You most likely need to loosen the chain before it will start to slide of the shaft. The chain if too tight could also be some of the problem of inadvertent engagement as I recall.

Loosen the bolts holding the motor and it should become loose enough to slide over a bit to remove the chain. Likewise to the tighten chain, do the reverse. This is one way, I haven seen much of your machine to tell other ways.

Or- to do it without mucking up your chain tension-

Look at your own pic- see that odd chain link located at 11:00? That's a master link. Pop the clip off sideways, pull the side plate straight off, and you can pull the chain apart to take it off.

How do I loosen that bolt that is holding on the clutch? it wants to move.........do I extend the starter cord out to hold it still??

:wai: If no impact. Use the old trick, remove spark plug, stuff a rope into the cly. bring the piston up agaisnt the rope and then remove the bolt. Leave some of the rope sticking out, so that you can it back out. Or pull the flywheel shroud and have someone hold the flywheel. Good luck.

When you say the shroud you mean the cord? is that the easiest way? i do not have a whole lot of tools

The shroud is the tinwork that directs the cooling air around the engine- the very same tinwork that the pullstart mechanism bolts to.

Don't use the starter rope to hold the engine from rotating. That's a very effective mothod for breaking it.

One other good trick for getting that bolt off if you don't have an impact gun. Put a wrench, socket, or breaker bar on the bolt, and give it a smart smack with a deadblow hammer or mallet. Remember- you're not trying to hit it over the fence, just a sharp smack.

Even though this was a brand new engine apparently the clutch went bad. I called scooter x and they agreed! Thanks to you guys I used the rope trick to take out the center bolt holding on the clutch and the utube video you guys gave me to take off the chain. I also learned what it would take to remove the clutch and it came right off no problem! No tricks on that. Received a new FREE clutch from scooterx today. THANKS FOR THE SERVICE SCOOTER X! I put the new one on also thanks to all of you..... Cranked it up and me and my son rode all evening long! What a blast!! I have learned so much from all of you in just a couple of days!! :cheers2::cheers2::cheers2::cheers2::cheers2:
