I recently restored (painted and touched up the engine) a go kart that i bought a few months ago. It contains a live axle with a drum brake system. They work but barely and you have to push the pedal down all the way possible to engage the brake. I am familiar with the mechanics of a drum brake and have come to the conclusion that it needs new brake shoes. The only part i am having an issue with is getting the drum off to see inside and replace the shoes. There are 3 bolts sticking out the end toward the tire that are connected ti the stationary part of the drum, and there is one allen key hole that is on the part the moves with the axle. I dont even know where to start. There is a welded plate on the side of the frame that i dont see coming off anytime soon. I have a few pics of it but wont be able to take any better or more detailed ones until the morning. Thanks for the help. (The pics are just of the cart in general to give an idea of what it looks like)
