Do you have bearings, mountd, etc to install, or did you just get the axle itself? Pics of everything you have would be very helpful so we can tell you what you need, and have to do still.

You might want to search for "how to set up a live axle" and "live axle components " as that would give you a heads up so as you're not completely in the dark, and it can help us help you better if you understand everything that is needed for it.

That's pretty much what you need. You should probably take the brackets apart so that you don't damage the bearings when welding. First, I would determine where you want the brackets mounted by having it all together for alignment purposes. Then mark the locations, take the bearings out and weld the brackets. You can probably get away with welding the brackets in place with everything together, but make sure that you don't hook your ground to the axle or you will damage the ball bearings when the current flows through them.

Ok,so does it have to be where the old tires were connected or can I bring it back a bit since there is no good place to weld it on the left side?

Short answer, yes you have to weld the hanger bearing plates onto the rear, then install the bearings and axle onto them.

Longer short answer: you have to figure out where exactly you want them at, figure the correct wheel base to track ratio. Then you have to line them up correctly and make sure everything's straight, square, and flush. Do not weld the hanger plates while the bearings are still attached, you can ruin the bearings from the heat.

You're going to need axle nuts, locking collars, and all the fun stuff as well, and are you planning on attaching your wheels to your axles?

Your going to need to do a lot of research to say the least. To start off with do some research into wheel base and track ratio for go karts. You're going to have to do some measuring and some math, and decide proper placement.

Sorry I'm on a time crunch and busy right now or I would write everything you need to know out, maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

You can weld anywhere you want.
I would try to stay as close to stock distance if you could.

I found old rideing lawn mower wheels from a scrap yard with some machining they work perfectly. If you have a lawn mower engine repair store I would try going there and they would probally have some tire for cheap.

The only machining I did was to reduce the hub flange length and you do not have to do this I did just for looks
