How can i set up a torque converter on my go kart?

Hey everyone, i'm new to the site. Anyways i was wondering how i could step a torque converter on my 8hp tec. go kart? Thanks

well first move the gas tank. then find you a better Jack shaft. and move the sprocket over more toward the engine.(you can only tell how far when you have the proper Jackshaft)

cant he just remove the jackshaft that he has since a TC already comes with one? And just switch the driven around so that its facing outward and bolts right up to his chain??

I'm planning on cutting off the jackshaft and just leaving the sprocket on the axle, then i can mount the torque converter onto the engine. Thanks guys

the sprocket on the driven of the TC faces inward so youd need to figure out how to get it outward either with a jack shaft, or switching it around or youll still have the same problem.

if i were you id just get the tc and mount it in a upward kind of angle and keep your jackshaft. just run the chain from the driven to the jackshaft and youll be all set.

that way you can still keep your same design. and not complicate things too much. although that gas to be moved up for this to work it will work.

Thats what id do.


Do you have the TC yet?? Have you checked for clearance?

thats what i originally planned but the gap between the jackshaft and the engine is vary tight (maybe an inch) and i can't fit the tc in that small area.

Get the unit first, and work around it. you may have to shift the engine and/or rear sprocket to fit. Get rid of your existing jackshaft. As one end of it is unsupported, it looks like problems waiting to happen. You'll likely need to cut away all that bracing in the rear (is that for the jackshaft?) for clearance.
