I've tried everything I have available to me, pliers, vice grips, soaked in Wd40 and I still can't get this end to budge
I don't have heat available to me

WD-40 ....BLOWS for the stated purpose. Are other products better? Sure. PB Blaster is phenomenal, try also Liquid Wrench and other penetrating fluids. I don’t buy WD-40 any more. It’s way overrated.

The nut there is a lock nut. Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. Loosen that, and the helm joint end can also be unscrewed. Are you using a vise?

EDIT—I’m slow today.

Anyhoo, every proud man must own a propane blow torch. Works wonders.

No, sadly no vice here at home. I was trying to hold it with plyers like I did with the other end

I'm definitely going to need some new tie rod ends after this haha

I’ll bet they’re quite gnarled. :D

If you had an angle grinder with an abrasive wheel, you could knock all that stuff down and polish them right up, good as new. Anything is possible. If not, go for the premium style “heim joints” as they are otherwise called.

However, I’m a stickler for being able to get things apart so I like to grease my threads either with oil, grease, or I use Anti-Seize which is a metallic paste. Has real staying power too and some anti corrosion properties. Just a FYI.

I got the jam nut loose but unfortunately the end is frozen on and I can't get a grip on the tie rod to break the end loose

YEAH! PB Blaster!!

Believe you me, we've all been there before, waiting for the fluid to work.

Have you positioned the rod vertically, so gravity pulls the fluid in the direction it needs to go?

EDIT
--maybe not so much red hot (he was exaggerating, I think), but you want to apply the blue torch flame to the outer piece so it expands--away from the threads. Quickly though, so the heat doesn't transfer to both parts, expanding them more or less the same amount....

Honestly I hadn't even thought of putting it vertically!! I'm going to do that now and spray it so in the morning I can take another attempt at it

I agree with you philosophy on the application of heat. That there is borderline genius level thinking.

But I believe capillary action/attraction force will do the trick in any position, as far as the application of nut busting juice goes.

So, inverting the piece 180 degrees from my suggestion (ball joint up) should work equally well? It'll certainly be difficult to apply the product, says I...

If he puddles/pools the fluid on the joint so gravity and capillary action are both working for him, it'll be best. I like using all natural elements at my disposal, not just one.
