Hello again and Happy New Year! I have a kart with a B&S 8hp, and a Comet 30TAV. I finally got the TC sorted out. From my last post, I had it all back together, but no go; figgered out that I had the Driver pulley put together wrong . Now it goes pretty good. However, the Driver pulley gets rather warm bordering on hot, the belt looks OK, but it will lurch when you go to take off. Will changing the gearing to 6:1 help? I will post back later this evening with tire/wheel sizes and gearing already installed.

Thanks
Jeffro

check your pulley alignment with a good straightedge, correct as needed.
the driver will get warm/hot because it's bolted to the engine's crankshaft (as well as producing it's own heat from normal operation).
lurching could be from lack of driver lubrication, loose drivetrain bolts, chain too loose, or belt tension not set to specification.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. @speedshopmike, I was under the impression that the driver was to have no lube. If I do add lubrication, what do you recommend, dry graphite?

Tire diameter is just a shade over 18 inches, with a 54t axle sprocket and 12t on the jackshaft. I am not too concerned with top speed since we ride in the back yard that is about an acre. I was looking for more low end grunt and keeping the TC a little cooler. I did find out the chain had too much slack, we snapped it. So it is off to BMI karts for a new one and a 9T j/s sprocket.

That's a little steep on the gear ratio, @ 4.5:1 with 54/12
you may want to consider something like 72/9 @ 8:1
or even 72/10 @ 7.2:1 or 60/9 at 6.6:1.
the 8:1 ratio or the 7.2:1 ratio will give you a decent top end and a butt load of low end while keeping you're rpm up, and take a big load off that driver and belt.
