Honda ohc or ohv?

Just found out they make a sohc motor. Awesome. Any thoughts on getting this for my kart? Upgrades? I notice it's way cheaper than a ohv engine, but is .2 hp lower (oh god not .2 less! How will I climb that hill!!!!!)

The GC OHC series Honda has exhaust facing forward which means that you may not have enough clearance to mount it behind seat "as is".

I don't have any problems. I use it as a beater engine.
Some folks complain about the plastic cam, but B&S has been using plastic cams since at least '97. I think they're better than their metal counter parts.

Most folks on here can barely afford a $100 clone, my self included.
That's why I build up my own stuff. I never relied on "bolt ons".

Ya I know. I come from racing cars where even the most minor part breaks the bank. So downgrading to karts is waaay cheaper. Just a New turbo for my skyline powered 240sx- 1500$
400$ for efi= cheap

I would take a honda GX over a GC, but that is JMO. GX= commercial quality, GC= residential quality.
Also, don't think the GC has an iron cylinder liner. (The GS motors do, they are pretty much a heavier duty GC)

For $400 you could double the HP of a GX motor (or most motors with performance parts available) or buy a much better motor.
Doubt the EFI would add much at all, providing the carburettor was jetted correctly.

OR why not get one of these?

Both OHC and fuel injection, 7HP, and a cast iron liner (and ball bearing crank)
Wow. Never really looked at these engines, but they look really well designed (supposedly actually have decent stock ports for one)

Parts are quite hard to get and expensive for the subaru robin motors though.

But that is cheaper than an inferior (IMO!) Honda GC motor and EFI kit.

If you are going to get a Honda, get the GX series. The GC series isn't worth the money to me.

The Ex series would be what you are after, I would say that they produce a better engine than Honda. Honda does have more bolt-on modifications available, although Subaru has some if you look. If you are want a modded engine Subaru offers a KX21 engine which would be an excellent choice (no EFI though)

Neat. this is the info I was after. I liked the idea of the ohc motor because it is updated valve train. I forgot its residential, thus quieter, thus lousier. I'll stick with my gx160 then. What do you guys reckon I can pull outta that engine power wise with a stock carb? I can dismantle the whole thing and rebuild if I need to, but im not spending 90$ on a mikuni carb. I thought basic bolt ons, cam, and milled head. Then nitrous! Just kidding.
