Can you run that bracket the the roll cage and not the engine? If you ripped out the back axle it may break the cases or bosses on your engine right?

Well it's on the Swingarm so it will be separate from the cage. I was going to make the rear of the cage wrap around the back but it won't be attached at all back there.

Keep in mind that won't be the only bracing and the pic is decieving but it will go from the rearend up and forward at somewhere around 45 degree angle so it would have to rip the rearend like a freight train to break the welds and break the cases... More than likely if it did all that it would be from a hard wreck into the wall and it will be the least of my worries...

Ive got the engine almost mounted. I took your advice bighead and mounted it as low as i could go. I figured since i would be doing mostly drag runs and lite off road that i didnt need a ton of ground clearance. I will definately need a skid plate though as the oil pan is now the lowest thing on the ody besides the tires. I'll get pics up tomorrow when i have it completely done.

Here are some pics of the final engine mounting position and the finished swingarm.

I added this tube at the front for two purposes. First is to strengthen it and second is to have a place to mount the engine. Its 2" round tube that is .109 thickness. Nothing is moving that!! You can also see how i notched out the round tubing to fit the stock engine cradle into it so it would be strong. Its welded on all four sides of the cradle where it intersects with the tubing.

They are Duro Scorcher street ATV tires. They come in various sizes and i bought them in 20x10-9 to fit the banshee rims. They run about $72 a piece from rockymountainatv. Heres the link

Thanks. That was as low as I could safely mount it but I think with the better tires and wider stance it will be stable and have a good COG.

I've got a set of shocks on the way for the rear. I have to start on the cage next. It's going to be time consuming...

Have you looked into the JR Dragster slicks?

The engine sits perfect. On my sled Ody the engine is about 6" above the frame rail. I can tell the difference between the sled ody and stock ody top heavy wise. Huge difference really. Thats why I was stressing low low low.

Also I would drop your seat below the frame rail as well. The stock ody has it below the frame rail. And bott my custom Ody's have the way below the rail. A big seat up on top does not look good to me. Also keep the center of gravity that much lower.

I will try to post pics on how my yellow ody is set up. And pics how they did the seat rail on my blue Ody. Trick set up. The seat on my ody has a deep area you sit in. maybe 5" so you do drop way down in the seat. Also lets you set the seat angle to what you like without it sticking up in front. This way your feet lay on the floor all the way down.

Also when making the J-arm cross bar. It's best to give the bar a slight curve. This give you more tires space. I got lucky just by a 1/4" or so. If I would have curved this bar I can add bigger tires. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for all the info. I have a couple of ideas in mind for a cage. Ive got some pics ill throw up of something similar to what i want. I should have my Inventor CAD software in the next couple days and then ill get measurements of the stock ody frame and start building a new cage in there so i will know exactly what it will look like and have all the measurements, etc figured out before i ever cut the first piece of tubing.

I need to get the new hubs mounted with new tires so i can see what the measurements will be but just comparing the hubs its looks like the new ones will make the rim stick out another 1 1/2" to 2" and when i was looking up the matching front rims they offer them 1" wider so i may not even do anything to the J-arms if i get an extra 3" on each side.

The rear shocks should be here tomorrow. I ended up ordering some Can Am Baja 650 ATV front shocks for it. I got them for $90 shipped so im happy with that. I still have to design my cage, then start on that but i dont know how soon ill be getting that done as the price of the tube isnt cheap and im short on play money this month...

I know I haven't posted in awhile. That's what happens at the end of the month when all the bills are due and your broke... I should have the material for the new roll cage in a few days and I can also start boxing the frame.

I took out the stock rear crossmember from the frame and put some 2"x2" box steel in there. I am amazed that the crossmembers are only held on by 3 spot welds, and 3 tack welds per side... I think for now ill leave the front crossmember in there but completely weld it to the frame rails, and i figure with the cage i plan on building that it will be strong enough.
