Hello,
Just thought I'd ask for some info on the Honda Buggies. I couldn't find to much in google, I guess because they're a fair bit older then I am! The FL250 btw.

-Are they auto,semi or manual?
-Good power?
-Without a roll cage would they be to dangerous?
-Fit a tall person?
-Do the engines brake a lot coz they're from 1984?
-How hard would it be to put another engine in it? Considering I'm not to good with this kind of stuff. Something like a Honda GX200?
-Would a Honda GX200 pull this thing along enough? lol
-Anything else I would need to know?

Thanks :D

- Auto, they use a torque convertor which is really good. Later models (and maybe the FL250) are adjustable for engine RPM.
- Reasonable power, because they are 2-stroke
- DON'T DRIVE IT WITHOUT A ROLL CAGE. That pretty much sums it up for how dangerous it is without it. Don't do it, please.
- Probably, they don't have any foot controls. All controls are on the steering wheel
- The engines are indestructable, and because they are 2-strokes a rebuild is cheap as anything
- I would keep the stock 2-stroke engine; or if you can, upgrade to a larger odyssey engine like an FL350 or Pilot (400).
- Not familiar with GX200, but probably not as good as the stock 250cc 2-stroke
- They are lots of fun, and anyone can drive them because of the hand controls.

lol I read that in front of my mum and dad, that's going to take some re-convincing :D

Is it actually that easy to roll? Or do you have to have steep hills and jumps to roll it? Most of our ground is pretty flat, not many bumps.

The one on eBay has the roll cage broken off and bent. I could pay for it to be professionally welded back on, but I would be worried after being broken it wouldn't be strong enough. I would prefer something that wasn't so prone to rolling. Would it roll more then a quad?

I'm not that crazy, I go fast, but always slow down for bumps, hills, corners etc.. Never do jumps.

Ok, pretty much, I have the choice of one of these 2 if I'm going to get one.

1. Listed at $1000, but has no bids, and auction ran out before without a bit to, so I could haggle down to $900 or so I reckon. All newly sand blasted and painted, which would be a good thing to stop rust I'm guessing? Has a bit of a scrappy chair and a bent roll bar front (it is included).

2. Looks all new etc.. But will likely go up to $1300-$1500. Is closer to me though (said he would meet about 3 hours from me).

So, It's a choice between Sand Blasted, $500 cheaper with bent roll bar and scrappy seat, or not sand blasted, but $500 more expensive and with a good roll bar.

*EDIT* Does hand controls and auto make it less fun? Would it still be worth getting even though I already have motorbikes and quads?

That other kart you posted before, the 2 seater one, really is just a childrens toy. I dont think it would be good for farm work or travel.

If you get the odyssey for $900 it wouldn't be more than $400-$600 to get a new rollbar made and welded, as well as a new seat. The odyssey is FAR better, and the resale value would be high as well. If you fixed the rollbar and seat you could probably straightaway sell it for $1500 minimum.

The hand controls are fine, they work really well after you get used to them.
I think the auto would be less fun, but that's just because I really enjoy changing gears.
Many people on this forum would argue that the auto/torque convertors are MORE fun. They're wrong, but they will still say that :wai:
It will be more fun than you can poke a stick at :)

Does it have spark?

The have a vacume fuel pump. If it has spark take the plug out and pore in a half teasppon of gas. Give it a pull and see what happens. If it runs then dies you need to clean the carb.

Put good gas in the tank as well.

If no spark check your grounds and make sure they are good.

Was it sitting outside? Or dry storage? Was it running when parked?????????? What year is it? From 77 to 80 had Points. 81 to 84 has CDI. So basicaly if it is Yellow it has points. If it is Red it is CDI.

You may have to clean your points if it does not have a CDI.

I am willing to bet that all you need to do is clean the points and the carb. Do you have a compression tester? You can take the pipe off and look at the piston and rings as well. Carb side you can see the piston too.

It's a two stroke. If you have compression, spark and fuel it will run. Check the air filter and make sure no nests are in there.

If you have spark your cdi is fine. The pump works on pessure from the crankcase. Make sure you have a hose that comes out of the block/engine to the fuel pump. The fule pump is a little box that by the gas tank with airline hoses comming out of it.

At this point you need to clean the carb. It is easy to do. It will run once you do clean the carb. Willing to bet my next paycheck.

Pull the 4 screws that hold the carb bowl on. Then tell us what it looks like. Is it clean looking or all gunked up.

This is how I clean my carbs. The link is for street bike carbs but you get the picture. You may get away with just cleaning the main jet and idle jets. They are easy to get out. When you take the carb bowl off you will see a two brass jets. Take those out with a screw driver and a 8mm wrench and see if you can see daylight thru the jets.

Online manual for the fl250

http://www.spinreel.com/fl-parts.html

here is the carb, Notice the two jets in the middle? Main Jet #120 and slow jet #58 is what your after. So you take the 4 bowl screws out. The with a 8mm you take the main jet out. The with a screw driver take the slow jet out. Chances are these are clugged. If your carb is all nasty you may have to take it all apart and boil in lemon juice. If you have to take the idle adjustment out. Make sure you turn them in all the way and count how many turn in they go. Then when putting the carb back togather you can put the screws in the same location as they were before. Just look at your jets first though.

Also the slow jet can be really small and hard to find something to poke thru the small jet hole. I use a peace of brake cable stran. It is thin and strong enough to poke thru that hard crap.

Don't be scared to clean this carb. It is a simple carb and with this pic you will have no problems.

keep in mind, if theres any different mods or depending on your location and altitude, it may have different jetting. I know the jets on my warrior had to be way different than people that lived in sea level areas.. lol like 2 sizes up...

as it is, if you're not comfortable with ripping the carb apart, sometimes if you just pull the float bowl and then blast the heck outta every hole nook and cranny, and clean as much as you can with a fine wire, (IE: a strand outta a length of electrical wire) it and then blow out all the passages etc, REALY well, it will come back to life just fine as well.

and realy sometimes that, and new hoses are all an engine thats been sitting for a year or 10 needs...

Guy i worked with sold 3 of the old racing style ones with red and white plastics..
I wanted one so bad.. but couldnt afford one.. and figured it would be too cramped for me to ride in comfortably.

he took the trouble to fix eaxh one up to realy good condition as well.. 1000$ a piece..

now the irony is, i have a dingo.. im sure i woulda fit in and enjoyed the odessy just as much or more.. *Sighs*

oh well.. I'l just have to build somethign far better...

Odyssey is a great starting point. You can mod them pretty easy. Here is a few of mne.
