So I decided to build a kart from stuff lying around. I got a honda vtwin 620cc motor from a broke roller from my boss. I traded the frame for a set of offroad lights i had and pulled parts off a Honda 200sx i had wrecked, and my old go kart including a comet 40 series cvt. It's no where near done, but I was hopping for some suggestions on anything ya'll can come up with

heres what it originally looked like after a little welding:

this is what it looks like now:

The frame was probably much stronger in the 'before' picture... at this point I don't think most people would trust it with the honda 620 much less a 100hp bike engine. The rollcage and the mid-front lower portion of the frame look like they'd be extremely prone to buckling since you removed any form of triangulation they had...

Can you post a pic on how your swingarm is connected to the frame?

Your frame needs mega bracing top and bottom.

I agree. It is a sweet kart though.

If your swingarm is connected with just one bolt either side, I would rethink that. It looks like a potential point of failure.

We aren't knocking what you have done, cos most people wouldn't even dream of changing things like you are, but we just want to keep you safe.

with either of the those engines the frame needs a rethink

remember triangles are strong

what u have will fold like tin foil in every possible way :worried2

the paticular addition that is needed is the X behind your head

it is most likely if u roll it u are going over sideways this X stops the roll cage folding over

gx620 running

well here the vid of the Gx620, still having a problem with it idling (think it needs new plugs)

This kart is gonna be on hold for a while...unfortunately cause I managed to blow both of the valves in my fourwheeler due to a timing chain breaking.

the swingarm has just two bolts holding it onto the frame so I think I agree with Landuse and figure out a new way to attach it?
As far as the frame itself goes I have been very concerned with the structural integrity of it and with the opinions every one has given me here took it up to a local welding shop I put a lot of faith in, they told me that it would probably be better off scrapping this frame and redoing it from scratch. Also that it would be about as much effort.... so Im a little disapointed after all the work i put into this one. But I'd like to still be standing after everything is said and done. Are there any pics of frames that would hold up to that kind of power here cause as of now I'm at a lose and cant decide if i want to risk it or invest in a much larger frame a buddy of mine has
P.s. Fowler do you think that the additional x bars you have in the picture, would those be made out of thicker steel to work? or is it mainly the angles of the steel I should be worried about?

I wouldnt scrap that frame. I would clean it up nice and purty slap some paint on it and put something like $300 OBO for it or something. Then You have some funds to get supplys to build with for the bigger engine.

Well guys a buddy of mine offered me 1500 for the kart today, so im selling it. I will continue updates on the progress since he asked me to help him finish it. I think its for the best, and will probably start a new one here in the near future. Couldn't turn that price down one bit. Wrre going to reinforce the frame as much as possible.

Yep, those honda vtwins are EXPENSIVE... I've seen trashed ones at junkyards and I've been very tempted to buy them up and assemble new ones to sell but I haven't been confident enough to put the initial money into it.
