Hello all! I am rebuilding the GX390 off of my Manco Dingo 2 seater. I already have it broken down and am in the process of painting it. I also bought a stock rebuild kit. I will load some pics up later this evening. I do have some questions about reassembling it and about the governor removal and such....so without further ado.

1. After reading several other threads, the subject of which is whether or not heavy duty valve springs, rocker arm and so forth are needed to accommodate the added RPMs from removing the governor, I am unclear as to what will be required if I were to simply remove the governor and go with an aftermarket header and air intake.....thats it. Just those three simple modifications......will I need to upgrade anything else or will the stock setup stand up to the power? Since I am rebuilding it I figured I would go ahead and do it while I was in there, even if I have to wait a week to get parts in.

2. During reassembly should I use loctite or antiseize on any of the bolts?

That's it.....of course anyone who has put one of these back together, any tidbits or helpful tips would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

The Throttle Bracket is actually Silver Grill paint.....I'm doing the valve cover and stock header in High Heat Red. I'm planning on replacing the header but I have the paint so I thought I would go ahead in case I change my mind.

I would blue locktite every bolt, but that's just me.

intake, exhaust, rejet (not sure to what size). Throttle must have a direct hook up if you remove governor.

I found a thread about about an "AGK Bolt on Kit" which looked pretty good.......in that thread I found a link on rejetting the carb ,after upgrading, which I think I can handle (run stock, check plug.....rejet carb if needed, run, check plug again, etc....)

Throttle must have a direct hook up? Is there anyway you could elaborate on that further?

Something like that, but for gx390.

Also just a word of advice for starting. Once governor is gone you need to manually operate throttle when starting or you will not start it easily. The governor holds throttle open upon start.

Eg, choke on, hold throttle wide open while starting, after it starts keep it running w/throttle until you can turn choke off with no throttle.

Haha, wife and baby were at Grandmas for the weekend so I got to put a tarp down in the living room and break the engine down in the warmth (my little shop isn't climate controlled).......she did complain about the odor when she came home :)

As for the Governor removal.....seems like it's a little more trouble than it is worth. Im guessing it will only add to the top end and I'm ok with the speed it was before the rebuild.....hopefully I will see a little more with the rebuild and header/intake . Thank you though.
