First I will say I'm brand new to motors. I bought a air filter for my gx340 off of Amazon and installed it today. It came with what looks like a bracket to me and I'm also wondering what am I suppose to do with the hose left unplugged that was originally tied into the original air filter setup.

That hose (crankcase breather) was originally plumbed back into the carb and into the motor so the blow-by vapor could be burned off, a form of pollution control.

Most people put a tiny filter on it: (there's one on the valve cover and one on the fuel tank)

Consider getting a filter cover or pre-filter for your filter.
