I'd just buy a clone with electric start. Heck you could buy 3 of them for the price of that one Genuine Honda. And it'll be a 6.5hp not a 5.5. If you are using it for stock go kart duty the clone is just as reliable as the Honda. Like anything they will run fantastic if well maintained.

Redsox I stand corrected. I was looking at that motor on several differant sites. I guess I must have seen one that was 22mm shaft. If I order the motor I will be careful to get the 3/4" model.

Slideways.......I will look into the clones more. When I looked at them before I became flustated because every time I would find what looked to be a good motor deal it would not be allowed for use in California.

The link I posted doesn't seem to metion the reduction but I think I read somewhere that the motor had 2:1 reduction. I will confirm what it is and what I should be looking for in that regard before ordering anything. This is for a stock kart.

That said, does this engine appear to be okay for a kart????

Thanks agin..........Kent

Keep in mind you can go on ebay and buy the same motor with electric start... if you want it. Just type in gas engine.

For info (in case someone reads this post with interest in the question) with a bit of research it appears this engine is the same as any GX, it just has the elec. start.

I found a GX 200 that the engine shop installs the starter, flywheel, ignition and alt. That motor cost $440 plus shipping. They also carry the GX 160 that has the same setup done by Honda for $480 plus shipping. I'm going to do as Sideways suggested and look on Ebay. Can't hurt to know more about the options before committing to one. May save enough to cover the price of a sweet axle.

Thanks again for all of your input.............Kent
