Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help me with a starting problem. I have a honda gx160. It will start when it's cold but when it heats up it won't start. I have changed the plug and and oil and air filter. Put fresh fuel in but still not starting when hot. Can anyone recommend any other options that would help me to get it to start.

I just read an article that suggested that s difficult hot start, might be because the valve lash is set too tight....somethin to check !

That's why I don't like the idea of running 0 lash. I follow the cam card (aftermarket) or lower side of factory spec.

Anyway, just to clarify, it never quits running when hot? Only have trouble re-starting hot?

It only runs for 5 to 6 minutes at a time then I switch it off as it is a air compressor and when the tank is full I switch it off until the tank is empty. That's when it will not start again. The tank is empty in about 20 minutes.

Does it feel like a harder pull on the pullrope when it's heated up? Also, wondering if it's getting so hot that fuel in the carb is vaporizing before restart. On an air compressor, if there's no heat soak/heat radiation barrier from the hyper-hot components of the air compressor section, then that could happen. I still have some scars from both air and refrigerant hot compression component burns.

I’d bet the ignition coil is dying. I’ve had a few lawn mowers do that, but they would die after about 15-20 minutes of running.

Once the engine is cut off, immediately pull the spark plug and see if you have spark.

Lol I would love to put it in a go kart. But I need it for my work. So have been so helpful, I will give you ideas a go on Monday and I'll let you know if I have any success with getting it to run. Thanks again for your help
