Honda gx indetification

I am looking for a honda gx motor and came across this motor. Is there a way to make 100% sure that it is a gx and not another series? (Honda is cast into the housing so I am 100% sure it is a honda)

Honda gx motors will have a honda mold mark ontop of the block, underneath the gas tank.
I reckon Itll have the displacement listed aswell.

Has anyone seen a black gx series? The seller claims this motor has not been painted. Is there a difference between the Red/white vs Black GX series?

I have, looked and worked the same. I can't recall seeing a Honda with that look that wasn't a GX.

I have a factory black GX160 that looks identical to that. McKutzy is right about the displacement being molded into the top of the block.

Must have been dictated by the manufacture of what machine it was installed on...
Or installed with other tins painted black...

mine is black, came off a pressure washer. before you drop the dough, make sure you look into the gas tank. Rust in gas tank could equate to rusy in cylinder bore. I got a 'good deal' on a honda gx390 that looked great on the outside, even ran it before i bought it. After i got back i opened up tank and rust everywhere cylinder walls were pitted. just an FYI, just because its a honda gx whatever, doesnt mean that its worth anything until you test it. Makes me wish i brought my compression tester.

The Honda markings and gx codes are embossed in front of the engine on the block itself. If it's not there its not a Honda.

I ended up getting the motor. It is one of the 4.8hp versions (was out in the boonies with no internet to look up the cm3 part of the model number). Will gx160 perormance parts work on all versions of the gx160's?
