Hey guys, I'm new so please be patient. I plan to use a Honda GX 200 to replace the Tecumseh Powersports engine that was stock on the Carter 2936 that we recently acquired. Is that a good engine choice? Is it a fairly easy job? Thanks in advance! My kids are tired of me thinking about it and want to GET AN ENGINE!!!

As I mentioned in the PM, the Honda is indeed an excellent choice;
what I didn't... you can have a good engine for much less.. namely the predator 212 from HF.
with a coupon it's ~ 100 new. (w/o 120)
The predator is, most likely the most frequently used engine around here (it's cheap, it's reliable enough to be considered durable, and most users have access to HF
)
Since the predator is basically a gx200 clone, the mounting and throttle hook up is identical..
not identical to the one of a powersport tecumseh though.
this is a good video if you plan on removing the governor (remains the same for gx200, clones, and predator 212)

The GX200 is a great little engine. You won't have a problem with it at all
No worries.. a typo is just a typo
most gx200 or clones do not come with electric start, so starter key on the dashboard will be a problem (not to say impossible, since it's in fact NOT with serious extra money)
it IS impossible though on newer predators 212 I'm afraid.
A gx200 IS available with e-start though
(even as a clone.. just not as a predator 212 yet AFAIK)
you NEED electric start (or the charging coil that you find only in e-start engines of that type to be precise) to run lights.
you could run lights off a battery only, but you'll need to recharge said battery at home,
which frankly is a bit of a pain.
use low power LEDs! the charging coil can't provide lots of power, so stay below 20W to be on the safe side.
Dashboard start is just as easy as you might think it is.
tap into the starter box, figure out the two wires, extend them to the front, add a push-button or keyswitch (momentary switch!!) and you're done.
or if you don't want the original starter box anymore reuse it's switch.

I know what he's referring to, press the brake & it pulls the throttle back to idle, we've seen it once or twice...
The biggest inherent problem with such a setup is if the accelerator pedal is depressed at the same time as the brake, one is fighting the other which means it wqon't work as intended; it's a great idea with a good reason behind it but, unfortunately, without a spring in the throttle cable, it simply can't work correctly...
Just about every electric bike or scooter has a similar setup, a microswitch in the brake lever which instantly kills power to the motor, that can work but, once you go from electric motor to gas engine, everything changes...

it's nothing that one "needs" to have, or something I'd call "common" at all...
