First post, great information in here, I'm a noob, just redone a really cool carter bros. go cart with a briggs 5hp engine for my 8 yr old and now I want a mini to ride with her. Here's my question, can someone please dumb it down and provide me pics of exactly how to hook up a throttle cable to a gc160 so I can get started? I almost pulled out my hair on Xmas morning trying to adjust throttle on the briggs so I'd love an easy way for honda, it has no throttle control, governor is intact, took off covers exhaust and wondering where to go from now.. I'm gonna go get 1" tubing tomorrow and start fabbing up the frame, may remove govenor, I know the risks but the go cart I built will fly, just want to be able to keep up with her to reach her kill switch if she gets too brave. Lol. Thanks.

Welcome, Welcome. .... There are NUMEROUS threads about hooking up the throttle, whether its the gc,gx 160,gx 200 ,predator 212.... its all the same, based on a Honda. I could post it all over again here, but go look at the thread we just did on this . I stayed up late Christmas eve trying to help him get it straight. ... Go look in the go kart side.... it either in engines/clutches or kart discussion. ... I believe its titled "throttle hook up help? I just posted in it about 15 minutes ago..... It has pics and everything you need to know. Plus a couple different ways......

EDIT:::: Hey ,you do not need to remove the gov to keep up with her kart. Its all in the gearing and HP .....

Here's how I did it on my GC190. Mine was a fixed throttle engine so I had to do some other things but it works and its still governed.

This is the closest thing I've seen to understanding , so the bracket goes in the old kill switch holes, but I can't see up in there.. Do you still have this? I'd love to see up in there to where it's all hooked up. Nice set-up! Mine will be very similar, minus the machined aluminum mounting plate, you have access to a machine shop, that's cheating. Lol

Yes, the bracket goes where the old fixed throttle plate went. That aluminum plate is an engine mounting plate they sell for the Baja Doodle Bugs. No cheating here, I paid for that one. PMR makes them and others have copied it. Mine is a copy for OMB warehouse. I bought every governor spring made for a GC160 and 190 and never did get what I believe is the right spring for that throttle control. So...I took the stiffest one I had and trimmed the one end off and used 2 model airplane locking collars to set the tension and overall length. I then hooked up a tack and fine tuned a no-load rpm to 4000. Figured that little over-revving wouldn't hurt it. Any more questions, feel free to ask.
