Honda Engines. Red or Black ?

Saw a 5 horse Honda on CL last night.
Guy returned my call today,says it's on a commercial low pressure sprayer and runs good.Confirmed it's horizontal shaft.Then he says,"Now this ain't no red Honda,it's a black one.
I didn't ask what's the difference,but..... what is it?
I figured I'd get a straighter answer from you guys.
And is 75 bucks a good price?
I'm gonna throw 50 at him,but will prolly go 75 if it runs good.

Make sure it has a proper crankshaft.

The current Honda GC series has a black color scheme while the GX series has a red color scheme. You can go look up specs and features of both on Honda's website, but the basic thing is that the GC is a "residential" engine, VS the GX series' "commercial" rating. The GC is also an OHC engine, not OHV.

The exhaust points right towards your seat, I'd pass on that engine.

They're very obviously designed to be a cheap as possible to make and exploit the Honda quality image.

If it's a pressure washer then it's probably got the wrong shaft for easy go kart use.

If it's a GC, it's a GC. But I want to point out that I have seen brand new black factory Honda GX's installed on OPE.

i used a GCi60 on my minibike and i LOVE it, install a J pipe on the stock muffler with sheet metal screws (which there are provisions for). The only problem i ran into was the crack snout needed to be turned down a bit, there was a lip that kept the clutch too far from the block. Wasnt really a problem at all, took a whole 30min to remove the crank and take it to the local machine shop, $25 i was in business.
