I believe the problem you're having is related to the linkage not "snapping back" to idle, if your engine is new or was used for general purpose before you'll need to convert the linkage. Do a search of people using Honda clone engines on karts and see what they've done in regards to the linkage, this should yield results.

Do you have any type of clutch unit? Blaz, I think you're assuming he has a centrifugal clutch or TC and not direct drive.

Thats what im thinking sox...helloo(corny name haha :innocent:) you must attach a cluch unit so the motor will not engage the wheels until a certain rpm. You can either get a centrifugal cluch which is around $40 or a Torque Converter unit for about $200.

I'm with Imbo- from the limited info, it seems the OP needs a clutch. Helloo- search "Centrifugal Clutch" on all the go kart parts sites.

Hey. Umm it was on a boat with a wrinch thing to pull up fish nets and stuff. Naa I don't have that as I just started looking at it. It is about 9 years old. It's a GX 160 Honda 5.5. It runs as good as a brand new one. It was brought at a Honda shop I think.

Okay, so then you'll need a clutch (1st pic), a CVT (2nd pic) or belt tensioner setup (3rd pic). CVT is best, but most expensive. A centrifugal clutch is easy to set up, and a lot cheaper. Belt tensioner is cheapest, takes some effort to set up, and drives like a standard (You have to operate it as a clutch). Cheers

You want a small sprocket on the engine with your setup to give it some torque, otherwhise it would probably just stall the engine

as migel mentioned. small on engine big on axel. other way around and youl stall your engine or completely tear apart/burn out your clutch
