so i wanted a better drive system in my go kart i built. i had a hilliard extreme duty ckutch in it but a while back i saw a cool clutch then months later i went back and bought for 40 dollars works great i have cool future plans for it check it out!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFAacI51-a4

the clutch i think is an old roto tiller clutch make by v-plex but its cool and runs a standard v belt

Thats cool but it isnt a ctv. It just uses the "pinching" of the belt for clutching. If there was a variable pulley on the jackshaft then it would be a torque converter.
Edit: i watched the whole vid. It would be hard to get the spring tension perfect on the driven, but it could work.

Also note that even if you do get the driven and the driver to open/close at the correct rate, your going to need to make the cam too if you want it to downshift automatically and really make the most of the engine.

well there is lots that would go in to it but using a big spring and locking collar i could slowly adjust it but the pulley on the back is adjustable and when i open or close it it changes the ratio i think i am going to finish it and run it as it is but anyway its cool
