Homemade Yanmar diesel with full suspension...

It's been a while since I replied to my last thread, but the idea has become a thing, and it's awesome...

There's only one problem.. the front suspension and steering

I had to take the shocks out of the front and replace them with bars, this steered a lot better. It used to not be able to steer with the shocks in forward, but in reverse was good, now without the shocks, the steering in forward works perfectly, but I am trying to make it steer with shocks.

I do plan on making a roll cage today, bought a little 110v flux-core welder... for $70 its awesome, I'm a good welder, heres a good sketch of the roll cage idea:

It won’t roll with those tires you drew. It will be very bumpy. Also that pointy seat may spear you. But the rest of the kart looks pretty good! Did you build in Ackerman angle? Use a steering rack? What kind of problems are you having?

Now about your cage design. Remember triangles are the strongest geometric shape, so lots of triangles in the cage design. No members that lead to nowhere!

Yes, when I was to drive forward the kart's tires would fold in, or wouldn't steer right, I am using a steering rack and doing reverse Ackerman.
I am unsure why this idea of rack and suspension doesn't work for each other. I may have to replace the rack with regular tierods an it may work better. All of my suspension components are homemade, so they aren't perfect or have ball joints, which gives it slack.

I did end up making the roll cage earlier today, and man, does it look good!

I have so many things to install on this build, a key switch, electric start, battery, lights, spare tank, electric fuel shut off, possibly an alternator, and turbo... yes I have both of these, turbo being a little big tho and would just be for looks.
(Edit: I do have all of these things, they just need to be installed)

What is the HP/TQ rating on that Diesel?
You can’t fool us, that is not a “ homemade Yanmar diesel” as claimed!
Thats a real yanmar diesel!
I like everthing diesel. I have a diesel lanwmower, truck, generator etc. Now l’m looking for a diesel toaster!

Front suspension: Have to shown a series of photo's

Rear suspension: That is some long extensions on the shock mounts.
Lots of forces there.
Might need to beef up that area.

I had a Yanmar 2 cyl.
It was older and it was also a wide open air intake design.
Those things are subject to runaways
I could see engine oil getting splashed around with that rig.
If yours doesn't have some version of air throttle, I would incorporate a emergency butterfly close-off for it.

Yea, mines not a "homemade yanmar" but just a homemade frame with a yanmar. It's an l70 so about 6-8 hp.

I guess you missed the bus again.
I had a Yanmar with a wide open air intake.
As in, there was no throttle control of the air intake.
As in, the throttle controlled the fuel injection only

I brought the turbo to school, making a flange for it in metal shop! But I'm still not sure whether to have it drivin' to the intake.

Your tie rods are somewhat longer than your suspension arms so you will get some bump steer.
But it doesn't look crazy out of proportions.
Is everything tight with no slop?
Any toe in or toe out?
