I have two videos on YouTube about building seats. This one is for a "mini bike" style seat, but you will get all the main ideas. I use 2" high density foam for kart seats. Thicker stuff for mini bikes.

Hope that helps you with some ideas for a go kart seat. If you are feeling lazy and don't want to sew, you can always skip the piping and just staple over the plywood and foam.

I did make one, for my bike.
Took some plywood cut in an outline of the shape. I used a kneeling garden pad as the foam seating material. Taped it to the wood cutout. Centered and then progressively staple the backside, the seating covering material. Cut away the excess. Vinyl is a good choice, cheap and well lasting.

thanks KartFab I'm going to try to make your seat from the go kart video but try to modify the design a little bit because my kart docent have a backing for the seat to be mounted on so i have to make a one piece seat. do you think u could make the two separate pieces then get some hinges and screw them in. then it would double and fold over and protect the seat when its not being used
