home made air filter adapter

Its for sale....
Intake 2.0======== So I got a new filter yesterday,so made a new adapter more to my liking..... Whatcha think? O, it still needs to be cleaned so its bright white again. It will get painted grey sooner or later....

Ha. I'm good. I have one. Would like to be able to make my own though. Bought mine from AGK. Dagnabit, I WILL have a lathe at some point.

I like 2.0 better. Large diameter to smaller looks to be blended better. Very nice, Sir. How's that stuff hold up to the heat?

Oxy, its Mylar. Its hard, light weight, plastic. It holds up to heat decently. That side of carb dont get hot though. Ive used it to make chain tensioners ,spacers, all kinds of stuff..,

# 2 looks like it will do the job, not that # 1 would not do the job, cool air cleaner also. It ough to suck some air.

Tihm, here ya go.... The inner wall is a little closer to the opening and the ID is tapered farther back. I scuffed one side trying to polish off the inadvertent chuck marks..... (long story) Anywho.... i drilled and tapped for 1/4-20 @ 90° from the scuff mark. The fuel shut off /choke will/should hide majority of it.... my bad..... Now i just need to know if the GX160 and GX200 have the same carb bolt spacing and size.....

Jim, you've probably answered this somewhere else, and I just missed it. You're on the fire dept., and you are still in the trades; that means you're a volunteer with the FD? Or do you just hang as a machinist on your days off? Either way, Kudo's for you, I just haven't caught the info if you're one or the other, or both.

Oh, and nice on the filter adapter; I have some questions on Mylar. I've machined many types of plastic; that's not one of them. My personal extremes are food grade Teflon at one end (PITA,PITA,PITA) and PEEK at the other (machines like aluminum ). So where does Mylar fall in there?

Pat, yes I am a Lieutenant in a volunteer fire dept. Currently, we have like 4 of us that respond to all the calls,both medical and fire related. It is very rewarding (not read $$$$) second career. I get paid with handshakes and hugs of gratitude. Its also a lot of fun at times. Just this morning ,around 3a m , we had a train car full of coal, on fire..... My first one, pretty interesting. I respond to fire service calls from structure fires to brush/grass fires and my favorites are the car fires.... we get a lot of stolen cars dumped in my district. The thrill of not knowing if something is gonna POP or blow up.... the bumper struts blow out like rockets. Hydraulic lift assist cylinders on the trunk and hood blow too... then the charges for the air bags can blow if subjected to too much heat.... VERY NEAT......
My station runs more calls than the "big city" (not HFD) next to us,and they have more area,more people, and like 5 stations fully staffed with paid guys. And we do it with 4 guys and 5 trucks..... We are busy.....
O yeah, I work as the lead machinist at my job,full time,roughly 65 hours a week. Then another 40+ at the fire dept. This is a weekly thing, hence always tired and short on time. Another reason why I do a lot of my kart work,while I am at work.... lol

Well..... ? I had no real intentions of selling these. I am simply sending my slant-eyed freind a Christmas present, with some goodies thrown in.... After seeing some, and reading about the advantages of removing the stock air box, I just HAD to have one. Im cheap though. Ill build before Ill buy,if possible. I got the original one for sale in my photo album. (If you see DIYGKMP " in a signature,that means they got some pics of stuff for sale) Read that description good. It needs a PRE FILTER foam thing to be any type of filter. That one is about 10 years old and has no more element left in the screen.

I have enough material to make a few, if I was PMed I guess. I would need to know the carb bolt spacing c-to-c , and diameter. And what engine. This one is for honda/honda clones. I have a Tech-crapsa engine I can use to make a powerssport adapter. And a briggs ....

If I made the tube a little longer, would it possibly hurt OR help performance? Im not talking like 6-8" long.... just maybe like 4".... right now its at 1.75".... Any thoughts?
Also, I will be making 3 or 4 more of these,with a filter and vacuum port. Maybe even the choke hold if asked. Gonna put them in the market place.... Filters will be either blue like mine or red.... Just figured Id offer.....

... curious as to how youd do that while the studs are only a certain length... plus I see clearance issues(atleast on mine it would be), and do to the extra length possible leverage breakage.

I dont think I would be a 'bad idea'... but not necessarily a 'good idea' either.

The studs sit inside the piece. This plastic is hard, it aint gonna break very easy. (Or at all) Clearance shouldnt be an issue on a kart. There is nothing there on my kart,most karts... I just figured the longer tube would allow the incoming air to start to spiral into the carb better. The drill bit I use to put the 1" id leaves a spiral set of lines (from the flutes) in it. Rifling....,

Ahhh... I see your point/reasoning... but unlike a cars intake manifold our Honda's throttle body probably wont take FULL advantage of the spiraling motion... due to the choke preseeding (infront of) the throttle body... that would be 'my' guesstimation. On a cars intake I know the advantages of the spiraling... but Im tending to think that it probably wont effect 'performance', on our mower motors... just a visual thing.

Very nice work Jim; the only way I can see to improve it is to maybe add a lip to act as a stop for the filter... but, that's just me

Fabroman, the filter has an inner lip 1/2" in , so it will only go on that far.... just enough for the clamp to seal....

Well its FINALLY here! I have been waiting for new red filters to come in. They had 300+ blue ones but no red..... till now..... It will be in the mail tomorrow morning,and you (Tihm) should have it by monday or tuesday.... Sorry for the delay, but I know you wanted red for a reason......
