I just got a Hobart Airforce 250a plasma cutter in excellent physical and working condition for $400 (craigslist). The guy I bought it from thought something was wrong with it because he would hold the torch in the air and the arc? Would stop after 3 or 4 seconds. So I bought it, got it home, hooked the ground to the workpiece like you are suppose to and what ya know... Works great. man I love craigslist!

patience is a must when cutting. don't go too fast and you should be good. if you plan on cutting lots of straight lines on flat steel you should see about getting a straight piece of angle iron and some vise grip or c-clamps to hold it down.

Yeah, I have been looking for about a year. Timing was perfect on this one as we got a little bit of a tax return so I had $300 towards it. I was desperately trying to avoid buying a cheap Chinese one so this couldn't have worked out any better. Now I just need to get a work cart so I don't have to crawl around on the floor to cut stuff.
