Hey.
I have a gx340 with a 2:1 reduction gearbox and I have just realised that the clutch will not engage due to the springs needing around 2000rpm, meaning the engine would need 4000.
Does anyone know where to get some springs that engage at around 1000rpm in the UK? I have the Hilliard Extreme Duty 1''bore 14tooth #41 chain. The engine still has a governor so I need the clutch to engage when the engine is around 2000rpm at the engine, 1000 at the clutch.

Cheers

Can the redux come off of the engine. As in, is it a separate addon component or is it part of the side plate? Some of them can come off and it will be just the motor, alowing you to carry on.

Post some pics of the motor.

The redux is part of the engine, it has a special/different sump cover with holes to lubricate the gears.
I can't post closeup or any other photos as it's not kept at my house and my grandparents house is quite far away

You can put a different crank and side cover on there and get rid of the reduction if need be. Clone parts will let you do this rather cheaply.

the #41 chain may be too weak to run this kart properly.
(tensile strength is ~6600N)
the engine produces up to 1713N roughly... with the 2:1 that's 3426N on the clutch.
your overall gear ratio is 4.71:1 enough to propell a lightweight kart with an engine of that size I guess,
but with an engine that big it's also the equivalent of 8070N which is well above the tensile strength of your chain.
So buy a #40 (tensile strength of 13900 N)

And you'd need red springs (#8443-35-002A) they'll engage at 1200 rpm (start to engage.. not fully lock I'm afraid)

Some redux boxes have a wet clutch setup, can I assume you checked to be sure yours is not one of them?
Yes ;)

that looks very much like a LXQ4; build into the crankcase cover;
not removable* and no clutch unfortunately ;)

*new crank & cover would be needed...

Ok. Are there any 'good' brands of chain? Or is it 'get what you pay for'? Where would I buy a chain and the springs? Anyone know?
Sorry for all the questions guys :/
When you said about the chain I was seriously considering selling it all lmao

Thanks. Sorry to be a pain but do you know any UK websites? I tried looking but the chains I'm looking at are £200 and I don't think that's right haha

Ok. Would I be best off with a 48tooth sprocket on the axle? It is 33 at the moment. remember there is a 2:1 redux

I'm really considering selling the gx340 and buying a new gx200 clone because I have a clutch from my old 5hp briggs flathead
