Hilliard Clutch help?

So my clutch seems like its slipping more than it should from take off to about 5 mph. Its takes a while to grip and actually start moving, and before it catches, its rattles and clunks alot. I took it apart yesterday and oiled it and it lookes to be still almost new. The clutch shoes look like mirriors from the friction which is normal. But the shoes still look like they have tons of life and and the bell and everything else is good. And yes its properly oiled.

My question is, is there anything I should look for that causes slipping? because I had alot more takeoff when it was brand new as compared to now. And my gearing is quite short so thats not an issue.

rattles and clunks? does it sound like the chain is skipping over the teeth?

Does it have a great deal of play? It should be snug if the bushing is in place properly.

Has he slightest amount of play on the shaft, probably 1mm its on all the way to the play the bushing has on the shaft is "natural". The chain isnt skiping, its strange I tell you. Everything seems in order but the engagement is a slippery, clunky mess

How many hours on the unit?

mabey 7 hours? but its geared low with a very light load

Thats actually a really good idea! why didnt I think of that?

I wholeheartedly agree. But after only 7 hours, this should not be the problem.
I would suggest that there is an overload causing the glazing.
