I'm a senior in high school "great times" everyone says. I have no car. It's not great for my social life to have mom pick me up everyday from school. Almost everyone has a car where I go to school, hell so do all the juniors. This is mostly because most of the parents in the district that I am in are loaded and buy their kids Lexus'es. I can't get a job because I don't have a car to get to a job with. [end of rant] I know alot of the folks on this forum are around my age, so I was wondering about the strange world high schoolers live in:

Would you take a girl out on a date in your mom's minivan?

Did you have a car in high school?

Did you have a job in high school?

Hell yeah I'd take a girl out in my mom's minivan if I were 16 and didn't have a car. Girls at that age, if they do like you don't really give a **** what you drive just so long as you can drive them somewhere.

Yes I had a car, but it was a beater.

Yes I had a job.

Yeah, Ive got an old truck. Its a little embarrassing when it stalls in the parking lot (working on that issue ATM). Of course, I switched schools for my senior year and know like 2 people in the whole school. I dont have a job, but I do all sorts of odd jobs for cash.

95 out of 100 people say its the best time of your life. The other 5 are more like us and insist that everyone else is full of it.

Highschool wasn't the best time of my life, but college is freaking awesome if you make it so. I still had fun in Highschool.... i'm not kidding when I say that about girls. They're crazy and if you're funny you can pick them up in nearly anything.

My senior year sucks even without a car.

You have issues if all you give a **** senior year is a car lol. It wouldn't make a difference for me. Busses @ 5:30AM ftw.

About 7. We live a few highways from the school though, and this year the budget cuts made them increase the number of routes the driver had to pick up, and they're spaced quite widely apart.

This makes me officially old when I say it but youth is wasted on the young. I look at high schoolers now and think, "why didn't I do this/that or the other." But I was like you, I couldn't tell the forest from the trees when I was in it.

More cliches? Dang! I am old:ack2:

Blaz is 100% right though

I lied about my age and started working in a grocery store when I was 13.

I saved up and bought my first car for $50, I had to do a lot of work on it but I finally got it running and drove it for several years.

Im getting something like this for a first car. I would prefer manual tranny, better mpg and fun. This thing will get great mpg
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/16067.shtml And I can haul scrap metal, pick up go karts and crap, ect. And its cheap!

You'll never see that MPG. The EPA always comes up with a higher estimate than you actually get. Plus, thats when new.

Just drop the lil Red Ram Hemi in it, takes care of all problems!
Just a 60 some old engine...
:D

Might actually get one... if the guy responds with a picture or mor information... wouldnt be a problem if it was closer, would think for $300 it has problems...

Exactly.

How do you get a job when you don't have a car to get you there?

Unfortunately, I live in suburbia, with no ability to work on a car (other than change oil and basic stuff. Plus, I have saved all my birthday money ever given to me. I have $500 in the bank. Wahhhh

I hate to be the one to say this, but it's gonna get said sooner or later, and I might just as well do it. At 38, I'm old enough to say it...

You think THAT sucks, wait until real life comes along!

With that outta the way-

I did not have my own car until I was 19 and on my own. I did just fine in high school. I had plenty o' fun with the female persuasion, whether I drove my mom's crappy '81 Accord, walked, took the bus, or rode my bike. I worked jobs that I could reach with the above transportation methods, including one in a chemical refinery in the next town to the south. Without a car.

Is it possible for you to ride a bike to a nearby whatever will hire you? I have a grocery store about a mile from me, as well as a hardware store, transmission place, and some other odds and ends. It'd be no fun riding a bike here in the SW PA hills, but it could be done til you get a car. It'd be extra motivation to save every cent I could. I had a few grand in the bank, fortunately, so that finished off a current car loan, I got the older car ('03 CR-V) and then the parents took out a loan for a new, 3rd car.

I do not have a job, but doing odds and ends here and there make some money. Selling a cellphone, cutting grass, etc. I nearly $#!+ myself today when I went to buy a Mt. Dew at school this morning and realized I had over $200 in my wallet. These little things add up quickly. I then got really scared because there are some less than respectable characters in my school.
