Hi
I just finished my go kart and now after driving it for a couple min, after i slow down then accelerate it makes a high pitch squeal. I shut the engine off then tried again same thing. What do i do?

is that ok? Or do i need to fix it?

Its from a lack of lubrication. i just did this about 2 weeks ago. You'll need to take the recoil cover off to get to the starter clutch. It looks like this:

Use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the seal/ring around the shaft. There are 6 steel balls behind this seal. They may fall out when you get the seal off, so make sure to keep your hand under it to catch them. Get all 6 of the balls out and clean them a little. The clutch shaft will come off easily. Take that off and clean it. That squeal is caused by a lack of lubrication between the crankshaft and the clutch, so you need to put some oil on the end of the crankshaft and on the inside of the starter clutch shaft. Put it back together, starting with the clutch shaft. Its a PITA to get those balls to stay in, but its easier if you have the engine leaning back a little. Once you have the balls in the right place (its obvious where they go) put the seal back on. Test it by turning the starter clutch both ways. It should only be able to turn one way. Put everything else back on and your done.

If you get the bottom 3 balls to stay in, hold the cover in place and while opening the cover juuuuust enough to fit a ball in, one at a time, you can get all 3 in. Don't drop them in the sidecover, unless you have a magnet.

Just so you all know, You can also just easily slide the front seal/casing off the ratchet/shaft.

Place the ratchet in the cup sitting horizontal (on a work bench or whatever.) Then just drop each ball in to its correct spot (with grease aswell)

Slide the front seal/case back on and you're good to go.

yea i just tilt the cart on its side to put the balls back in. Dont use greese because it gets gums it up and wont ratchet good. use atf to lube the assembly it is whats recommended and lasts the longest. Though it may also be your clutch squeeling but that would be more obvious
