Hi :)

Iam from South Africa.
Thanks for the nice forum community :)
Always loved a go kart.
I want to build an electric go kart that can burn rubber now and then :D
I want to use two 80 100 6500W motors but my budget will not allow it. And stronger electric motors are heavily priced :(

I will like to build my own controller and use a starter motor or two.
Will try to water cool them if that will help.

I saw a DIY PWM controller on the forum but could not find it again but I am sure if I google it and browse I should find a way to build my own 250/300A ish controller?

And how is my idea of electric with a bike gearbox? Will increase acceleration, top end and reduce motor load. But there will be more mechanical friction?

We need to go GREEN :D

Welcome to the forum! Good to see someone else from SA here as well. We have had a few, but they always seem to fade away after a while.

I would suggest reading up as much as you can on all the electric projects in the Electric section of the forum. There is also a sticky there regarding engines. I would also suggest having a look at the Helpful Links Sticky. It also has loads of info you might need.

When you get going with your project, start a new thread in the Projects section of the forum and post some photos so we can see what you are working on

Have you got a frame already, or are you thinking of building from scratch. It is usually cheaper in the long run if you can get a rolling chassis and then go from there

Welcome! Sounds like an interesting project!

The general consensus is that bicycle sprockets and chain won't stand up to kart use, even for a short period of time. with an electric motor, I don't even think a multiple-speed transmission is necessary.

I don't really want to soil the other good threads :D
I would like to build my own frame :)
And I hope I don't fade away! Just need time and money as we all do :p
