Welcome. Check your local laws, where you from? Where i live anything 4 wheeled with a motor has to be either licensed or stay off the road.

Lots of useful stuff here to help you, if you have questions feel free to search them, and if you still arent sure or cant find anything just make a new thread and ask.

And when you start that kart build make a project log!

looks like it can be legal... but be sure to find all the details. it would suck if you built it and then there is some regulation it does not pass.

I would drop by the local mechanic and bounce a few questions off him about street legality.

it says on the site that you can use a old worn out lawn mower engine... so that probably brings in the go kart class

i agree bluethunder3320 plus it also said you can build it your self or have a kit car which technically means a go kart.

Wow...... Do power wheels windsheilds count???? Lol.

Hmm then what about making it like a small scale truck? Of course the wipers dont hae to be pretty... Make something so it passes the test, however, as long as you dont drive in rain you never hve to use them.

The bumper car karts are street legal.

I meant, do the wipers have to be powered? Money saving loophole if not.

That's what I'm saying! If they don't require MOTORIZED wipers, you could get an old crappy pair and hook them to a handle. This would be a simple workaround to get around the need for an alternator and battery.

unless you do it by hand all windshield wipers are motorized

Modern ones, yes. But in the past, there were vacuum operated wipers, as well as fully mechanical ones wherein you had to reach up and move a lever back and forth. It is very unlikely that the vehicle code specifies "electric".

hahahha i cant imagine being in a car and cranking a lever to move the wipers.

You probably cant imagine rolling down your car windows by hand, locking/unlocking the car with the key, opening the trunk with the key, or pumping the brake pedal during hard stops either.
