Hi,
I have been working on various vehicles and tools with engines for the last 10 years. I'm a self-taught mechanic and I am getting more involved in metal fabrication over the last couple of years. I've built many projects over the years: some finished and some not.
I have built around five different motorized bikes: two with modified frames. In a search for more power from bigger engines, that hobby led me to go-kart style mini bikes of which I've built one so far, which was a 1960's resto-mod and another that I'm working on presently.
I had a little two-seater off-road style go-kart when I was a kid. It was a Chinese-built one that came in the mail in two pieces. It had a 5hp vertical shaft engine with a belt that kept twisting off about every 1 hour of run-time. It was flawed design, but it was the most fun a kid could have while it was working. We sold it a couple years later and I have been missing it ever since.
Over the years, I have made many flawed go-kart like concepts and sketches. I have also been looking for one for sale, but the prices are always higher than my budget at the time they are listed and good examples are far and few between in my area.
This year I plan on finishing my quest to build a fun kart and hope to have some good times discussing the build with you guys and sharing some pictures along the way. Here's to success in 2019!
Thanks,
Ben
