Hi, I want to start on my very own Go-Kart!
There are problems though, I do not know where to start! could someone give me tips or tutorials, or just point me in the right direction?

I also want to know how much a project like this will cost? What kind of engine is best? Where to easily find safe a reliable parts? What specific tools do I need? etc. I am pretty much a complete newb when it comes to automotive technologies, I have however have took a few auto classes. Basically I need everyone's help To get this project done!

Thank you!!! Tips and Tutorials are welcome!

Criagslist is the best place to find your very first go kart. It's where I found mine. Suburban's got the right idea with getting a harbor fright clone. If you need parts try ordering them online at: www.BMIkarts.com.

Anywho, a go-kart project can cost you under 100 bucks (If you're lucky to have some spare stuff lying around, and you're innovative enough) and up.

Also if you're starting out I recommend buying a go-kart that's running.

PM me if you need any help, advice, tips, etc.

as far a tools go, if you are planning to build your own frame a welder is a must (arc/mig) but if you choose to buy a ready built frame a welder would not be a high priority, although its always handy to have one.

You will also need the basic tools ( drill, angle grinder/chop saw, ratchet socket set, files, a nice mark-out set ( if you plan to have it totally homemade ). thats a handy amount to have starting out.

For engines best to get a harbour freight clone ( there easily modified and are common)
The normal is 6.5hp but its really up you, what ever horsepower you want.

Aside from all that there are alot of good reads on this forum and you a guarnteed to find out something new everyday to help you with your build.

first of all welcome! you will find a bunch of really knowledgeable people on here! so my advice to you is what kind of kart are you looking for to buy/build? if you are doing an offroader like mine (see my profile) where its going to weigh about 400 pounds with you in it i would suggest going with an 11 hp clone or bigger an a nice comet 40 series o go with it! now if you building a shifter kart, dont talk to me because i dont work on them nor do i build them lol! ill give you a basic overview of what mine has cost so far:
13 hp clone with electric start = $300
frame prefabricated (2009 baja reaction 150cc with hydraulic brakes :D + blown engine) = $600
wiring for lights and starter + Misc. = $50
jackshaft kit = $50
Comet 40 Series Torque Converter (Thanks newrider3! I'm sure you can find good used ones for sale) =$200
Battery + Chain + Other Stuff = $300
So so far it has cost me around $1500 ish I will remind you that i have every tool i could ever want (drill press, welder, plasma cutter, die grinder, angle grinder, pipe bender, bench grinder, and a cutting torch! as well as wrenches, etc.) so since your looking for tools as well then i have no idea how much its going to cost you dude lol sorry hope all goes well with the build tho
