Hi guys . I am new to go-karts recently purchased a honda gx340 on a formula tka chassis . My question is its running a 46 tooth rear sprocket ... It looks a hell of alot like a motorbike sprocket and chain....i need more punch out the corners and speaking to a guy at a local track he said going fir a 76 tooth rear sprocket should suffice would this mean changing front sprocket also as the larger sprockets have smaller teeth which means smaller links for chain and smaller teeth on fromt sproket. I do hope that mAkes some sence as like i said before i am a total noob on these things and usually just learn on the go.

I will add i am from england as i have noticed quite a few of you are based across the pond

Would it not be possible to find a higher tooth count that takes the same # chain? I know that changing the whole works (clutch, assuming you aren't using a torque converter) could be costly, especially with size shaft you will have on your engine. Some chain has the number printed on the side of the links. Most yard karts use a #35, or #40 chain (in my experience), however your chain could be heavier. There should be somewhere you can get a sprocket (most sprockets that are not a quick change, aka in 3 sections, will have the tooth count and the chain # printed on the side. an example is: 35W72 - it is a 72 tooth sprocket, that fits #35 chain) with a higher tooth count, then all that will be left is getting a hub to weld it to, and installing it on your driving shaft, and installing a longer chain. Hope this helps.

Cheers for the replys guys. I am pretty sure i am running a sproket carrier.....not sure what tooth the front sprocket is (engine sprocket i assume. All i know is its a gx340 lump with what i gather is a centrifugal clutch . The chain i cannot see fitting a 74 tooth sprocket as its already tight with the usual 1-2 mill slack . So in my mind i am guessing its going to be chain an sprocket. As long as i can get motorcycle ones surely i should be fine........wont i
