i am zane grey
i have just started to play with this go cart i ran across .
i am kinda reliving my youth.
when i was 10 or so i was given an old riding lawn mower that the local shop did not want ne more.
it had air rear tires and solid front tires . it also was not all there either. so i me and my dog draged it home.
i had a 4 1/2 hp clinton vertical shaft engine it was red and had a indian cheif head sticker on the cowling.
it had a 2 speed and reverse trans , no deck and no seat.
so first i got the engine running and then i put one of those wind up starters on it ..you wind it up and then pull a lever and
it releases the winding and starts the engine.
on my first test drive i found it very slow and reverse was the fastest gear..so i reversed the drive pulleys and the took the trans apart and used the reverse gear for my 2nd gear and 2nd was 1st then revese was 1st gear..
i used the pedals for clutch (which put pressere on and off the drive belt.) and the other was a brake.
i used a lever for the gas.
i removed the rear wheels and put them on the front and put wheel barrel wheels on the back.
i used the wooden seat from an old school desk and used my dad old miter box to angle the seat so you kind of leaned back a little.
this was mostly frame rails engine but man was it fast .
it would spin the wheels when you popped the clutch.
and those oversized air tires made it cruise like a dream,
i by passed the governer i drove this thing for almost 3 years
as soon as i started it i would re wind my crank . had a string that i tied to it so i could stay seated and start it for quick get aways.
i just loved that clinton...
