Ok Im new here, and pretty new to motorized things but I have built quite a few soapbox cars and other bike modifications.
heres the trike I made and you can see my cheap HF welder in background.

The reason I joined this was because I found an old Briggs and Stratton 1976 2hp 4 stroke and new I wanted to make a go kart. I changed out the plug and oil and got it goin, heres a pic
.

I realize its probably a little to small to do anything serious but it was a good excuse to make up a frame, so any input on how well this engine will work or where to get a more powerful one and which one to get.

i have never made a steel frame until now so I realize it may not be the best design so any changes you guys recommend would be appreciated.
The welds are a little spackley because its fluxcore, but the frame is strong enough for me to jump on. The back wheels arent attached yet, its just up on bricks so i could test the stregnth.

Sorry for such an essay, basically just introducing myself and my project, and asking how you think my 2hp motor will perform

Hello,

Your frame design looks fine from the pic you posted. The seat mount looks like it might be a little over-complicated...but otherwise it looks fine.

I believe your gonna need a large sprocket and larger/better wheels to get moving though with that motor though.

Their are quite a few inexpensive clone motors on ebay...but watch out for the shipping costs. Harbor Freight also have some low dollar motors as well.

Hope to see more of your build progress...

Thanks guys,

@stkcode, the seat frame is the way it is so I can mount that plastic blue school chair on it.

Right now I am planning on a 8 to 1 drive ratio, do I need to go higher?

I know I could get a stronger motor for quite cheap but I think that may have to wait till my next kart because I am only planning on spending about 40 bucks on this whole project. I will put more money into my next project
