Hey, im going to build a shifter kart this winter and iv got some questions.. Iv got my eyes on 2 cr 250 engines, ones a 99 and ones and 89.. 250 bucks a peice.. it would be obvious to get the newer one rightttt? And i would have posted this in the "Engines and clutches" part but for some reason it wont let me, it keeps telling me i need to activate my acount.. witch i already have done..

Sounds like this is going to be a very fast kart! I would get the 99 under two conditions:

1. It doesn't have any common problems the 89 does.

2. It hasn't been beaten on more than the 89.

If the bikes are in ok condition that is a great deal!

Well i didnt end up picking up one of the engines. Instead i figured i would just tear the engine out of my 92 wr 250, should be just as fast. It dosnt run at the moment, the guy i got it from said it needs reeds, i took them out and theres a very VERY tiny chip on one side... idk if a chip that small can cause the bike not to start up?? As of now this project is on very low funds, in the process of looking for a job and hoping i can sell of the rest of the wr250 to get a chassis, by then i should have another job..
On a side note i should have picked up those engines, i could have gotten them both for 400 no prob, could have easly double my money on ebay

If reeds leak, engine could fail to start.
Sometimes they can be moved slightly (play in screw holes) to cover the leak.
