I traded my buddy some sheet metal for the gx 160 (I pulled out of his bushes).Soaked and cleaned it and she started right up.I did need a fuel filter and the fuel tank was all rusted out. I went to my so called "Honda Dealer" and they would have had to special order the parts so I went on-line. I then stumbled upon " Affordable Go Karts.com" http://affordablegokarts.com
and my jaw dropped. I had no Idea how much one could "pimp-out" a Honda Motor!?
Needless to say I dropped a little $ there.
Another friend was moving and she offered a bunch of 1" EMT Conduit, I thought "what the heck, I'll use it for something".
Once I sketched up the rough shape of the frame, I broke out the conduit bender and some snips and started bending up the parts. I did use a Drill Press Tubing notcher for a while, but I realized I could use Aircraft snips to cut the notches in the ends of the tube. Then I Mig Welded the parts together. I was amazed on how strong the frame turned out. I do get some stress cracks where the motor plate is welded, next time I should use some heaver tube for that part.
The rear wheels are the front wheels of an old riding mower (Had to Modify The hubs).
The other running hardware I bought new from Northern Tool.(Bearings, spindles etc.)
Had a lot of fun, and learned a heck of a lot.
Wish I could do this for a living!!?!
I can't wait to dive into this forum
This is an Amazing resource!
Thanks
-Tim

Oh, hey! We just had a big thread about EMT karts but the servers crashed and we lost all of December and your kart was in there! Anyways, welcome. I'm sure you'll get a lot if questions about EMT for a frame.

Hi Tim, glad you made it!

Redsox, this kart is the one I started that thread with. I sent an email to the OP here that included a link to the thread. I guess he was intrigued enough to join up!

Anyhow, as everybody knows- I have long been saying that EMT had the potential to be a useful, readily available, and reasonably priced kart, buggy, and minibike building material. I'm glad to have found a good example to help prove the feasibility.

Cheers- Chris
