Hi i just joined this awesome site =]
I am interested in karts because i love engines, DIY and anything like that, lol.
I need to build a kart next year for my year 12 HSC major (I live in Australia), can't believe how many aussies are on this forum (yay!)

Anyway, just a silly question, would a tiny 2.5hp lawn edger (horizontal shaft) be able to even move a person + kart? just wondering cos i have two lying around the garage... would be useful if they could because i dont really have the money to buy a $200+ clone... thanks alot!

a clone is only 120 or something like that. and if you want run two engines on one axle some how then it should have enough power.

the engines 2 stroke, does that make a difference?

What kind of two stroke? is it like an industrial two stroke or a chainsaw type engine? and what do the output shafts look like on them? If there straight keyed shafts definitely do a dual engine setup, it would be bad ***.

whats a straight keyed shaft??
I see in the edger that the output is a pulley with a belt drive to the blade

means the shaft isnt tapered, but if its got a pulley, chances are its not. So i say go ahead, do a twin engine setup it would be sweet.
