Well ive been roaming the site for quite some time using it as a guide for building my go kart. i decided to join a few days ago when i realised my go kart wouldnt be done this morning if it wasnt from the help of the site and everyone on it! so i just want to give a big thanks to everyone on here!

i was also wondering if anyone knew the name of the forum on the tapatalk app as i cant seem to find it?

a little about me is im 18 at the end of november and live in northwest arkansas. i love anything with a motor and i want to learn as much as i can since knowledge is one of the few things we have access to free these days

Welcome Danijel!
I tell you one thing I learned here; The best of the best in DIY Karts are members and will help anyone who asks. I looked for over a week on Google and everywhere trying to find what model kart I had and I didn't get anywhere! I joined this forum and posted a picture and within hours another member told me everything I wanted about my kart. I'm sure if you post a picture of the engine someone will know what you have.

Take some pictures of your build also, I love reading and seeing members karts and builds because I get allot of ideas or just copy them (I always ask first).

thats the correct spelling, i was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia I Herzegovna. moved to the states when i was 7. i will probably post up a few pictures soon. i just got done repainting it. i did the frame in black bedliner spray and a few engine cover pieces white (couldnt find red) and my brother wanted the pedals white as well. As for problems the only thing the Im having trouble with is the pull start. It starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. but when i give it gas, say around 30-50% throttle it screeches and the rope comes out a bit. at first it was a for a second or so at full throttle and now its lasting a bit longer and is starting to take a toll on my ears. im guessing i need to lube it up but ive had bad experience with recoil pull starts and i dont want to mess it up and not have a pull start at all. ill probably post it in the right section later this afternoon if i cant figure something out. and ill also add a few pictures as id like to know more about the motor.

There's lots of info here about the 5hp B&S in the engine section...

That screeching, you'll be pleased to know, isn't the recoil assembly, it's the starter clutch binding on the shaft. Remove it, clean it & the shaft, add a few drops of oil to the shaft & it's gone

well right now i had a bigger problem arise. the pull start decided it would fall off and get lost. so i spent almost 2 hours looking for it but came to nothing. i didnt notice it until i got home and started cleaning it. i wasnt bashing it just mostly riding it through the neighborhood. maybe the vibration from the engine knocked it loose. but the thing is that its not the whole pull start. i guess it would be called the recoil housing? i cant find one online and was hoping you guys could help me. ill post a picture of what the crank looks like but the pull start that turns the crank is octagonal? hopefully the picture will be of more help than i could explain.

thats the best i can use that might help. if anyone knows of where i can get one of they are selling it let me know. ill also post it in the sale section. i cant really afford to spend too much for it though. and also i was wondering how hard it would be to convert it over to a style like the picture of the mower. and if it would be worth it in the long run or not. please let me know! thanks!

did the startor cup fall off as well?

This engine does not use a starter cup. The recoil housing fits over the starter clutch itself.

In the first pic, the white one, that's all that is left

You will probably need to get the whole front cover. I typed briggs 5hp starter recoil into ebay, and got THIS. It seems like they are freely available

What else would I need so I can make it so I can put a starter cup on it?

You do not need a starter cup for this engine recoil.

Have a look at the pic I posted. This is a 3.5HP Briggs, but works the same as yours. The cover in the back of the pic has the starter recoil in it. This just slips over the starter clutch which I circled on the engine. The shape of the starter clutch fits nicely into the shape of the recoil housing hole. No starter cup is used for this engine

i have another 5hp go kart motor thats locked up. do you think if i took it apart and got the crank and cleaned it up i could use it (given that it was in good enough condition). the two motor are similar except mine is belt driven by a comet clutch anf the other was a factory chain drive setup

What would you like to do with it? There are a few 3 wheelers posted on this site. If you are going to be doing a rebuild, post it in the projects section
