Has anyone ever tried to create a rear end sprocket setup like that on a ten speed?
I suppose chain alignment might be an issue, but it might be cool, and fast as a chicken in Ethiopia.

search for it on the forum ("bike gears" or "derailleur" or what have you..)

And it's NOT chain alignment it's the derailleur causing the issues...

Oh we even have had this stupid CL listing offering a kart chopped up added a MTB rear wheel (reverse trike the stupid way) with bike chain and all...

Go kart chain just doesn't have the ability to be bend sideways either. Not like a bicycle chain

Maybe a low power engine like the 79cc Harbor freight or the Skyhawks. They have kits to put engines on mountain bikes and they retain the rear gears. I wouldn't want to shift under throttle though. Might work with a light weight setup and low torque motor but I would bet 4?mph is all you'd do on hp/tq Limits of bike chain.

I've done the bike motors. The original bike chain is not involved in the powered end of things at all. The motor has a dog clutch (Basically, it is either in or out, no slipping the clutch) and you pedal the bike up to speed, release the 'clutch' which bump starts the motor through a separate sprocket bolted to the spokes(!) of the rear wheel, which is the powered by the little 50cc motor.

Forgot it had two chains. I knew the shifter was still working as I rode one 4/5 years ago. Forgot it has only one gear. The one would do 42mph according to phone gps app. They sure worked good for how cheap they were.

This thread is old, but you could put a one way bearing on the axle sprocket so that when it changed gears you could let off the throttle, slap the chain over to the next step, then step on it! We can't just let an opportunity to go faster get passed up so easily!

Some one didn't give sick bike parts the memo so they made one that works. Maybe it can be like OMB on here and any mention of multi gear will be closed/locked and a link to a thread telling you it won't work.

Came across this not actually looking for it. Some claim there are people going over 80 by having gears. Not sure I'd ever try.

I've had no misgivings that it can be done on a bicycle--just basically replace your leg power with a small engine.

Now if you can do it all on a heavier go kart with 4 solid steel wheels and a seat (just like we all know and love), then you will have my undivided attention and...

hmm yeah.. since it's the same thing if a 2horse 50cc engine is pulling on a chain
or a 7hp 200cc engine with eight times the peak torque...


simple fact remains:
you cannot run a 6.5hp engine with a bicycle chain (not for an extended period of time that is)
and you cannot run a #41 chain through a derailleur and have it shift.
again... it'll fit nicely, it'll work once, maybe twice, then it either chewed off the teeth of the cassette or the derailleur refuses to work and the chain will just snap it off.

Keep in mind we do not talk about a fifty foot run down the street...
that might work, you might even be able to cover a complete quarter mile...
but if your intention is to have a RELIABLE setup, then bicycle parts are just not going to cut it.

The first bike I seen with this setup had the 99cc hf 3hp four stroke. Had bad labeling of video title so can't find it now. I agree this setup isn't ideal for 6.5 hp and above karts. Maybe a trike with a light frame and a 79cc hf since the 99 is no longer. Lifan has one I guess.
