So, I have had this frame in the attic for a couple years, and now I am finally to a place where I can start working on it. I have a good rear live axle, sprocket, etc... but I need a complete steering setup and motor.

So far, I have cleaned the frame up, and taken inventory of the parts I need. I am confused about sizing though.

-2 hubs
-L and R spindles
-2 tie rods
-Pittman arm
-steering shaft
-steering wheel
-steering mounting hardware

My questions come to diameter of the tie rods/spindles/etc..I see 5/8" and 3/4" but I am not sure what this refers to? I am assuming it is the size of bearing for the wheel?

What else am I missing from my steering list?
I don't think the plate steel is supposed to be there, is it?

BTW, great site, I have already gotten help via pm from a couple people..Thanks!

The kart looks like a race kart

Pm anderkart he will know what it was

No i dont think the plate should be there

It also appears to have a big back end

It should say in the site what the size refers to
U need a few sizes to be right
U need the bearing size
The steering arm hole
And the dia of the pivot for the spindle

If those sizes where given for the tie rod ends then it would be referring to the threaded hole and threaded rod dia

I cant tell what brand your kart is.

Someone definetly added those steel plates, I'd remove them.

I think finding the corect spindles should probably be your first step here. I'd sugest you take some accurate measurements of your frames spindle mount spacing and their angles, then call/email a good racekart shop to purchace a pair of spindles that'll fit and give your front wheels the corect caster/camber/steering-geometry.
I'd sugest trying this shop first: http://www.out2win.com/catalog/index.html
I'd also send them your pics along with the distance between your top and bottom steering column mounting brackets.

Another good option would be to post a thread here at this racekart forum with your pics and dimensions:
http://karting.4cycle.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34
Chances are someone at that forum could ID your karts brand/model, plus someone might have good-used parts that would save you lots of money compaired to buying all new parts.

Look for any S/N's on the frame. Start inside the rt spindle mount, that's where Margay stamped theirs but unless someone really mangled the rear of the frame, it's not a Margay. If nothing there look where the rear brake mounts, Emmick stamped their S/N's there to prevent them being ground off, but the lower steering shaft mount is wrong for an Emmick. As Ander said, finding the correct spindles will be the key, all the other parts any good race shop will have or can source.

Not sure where your located, but here in the Southeast finding parts for a Sprint Kart which is what you have as opposed to an oval/dirt kart will be tricky.

Hate to bust your bubble, but putting that frame back together into a running kart will be costly unless you're one helluv'a scrounger. Don't get me wrong, if that's what you want to do....go for it. I'm doing the same thing with an early 80's Margay X-pert to use on track days, but you stated it's a play kart, & it would be a lot cheaper/quicker to find a yard kart on CL to start with.
