Just curious if anyone has used a gx160 head on the hemi predator to gain a bit more compression.

Any thoughts?
Thought this might be a good budget option.....
Any other great ideas for low budget small cc heads?

Good Idea, But I think you need a GX 200 and GX160.
Predator is NOT an Exact Clone.

I see quite a few gx160 heads for sale but all of them are either stripped completely or have small valves. Anyone aware of a decent place to find a larger valve complete head (Chinese or genuine Honda)?

I have done this mod to my normal 212 before. The issues you're going to run into are for sure the dowel pins. If I remember correctly I think I ended up only using one Honda dowel pin. I hogged out a small hole on the original predator head gasket to fit the Honda pin. I basically had to laser eyeball the gasket on the block, then pun on the Honda head while trying my best to keep the gasket aligned.

I cant attest to any power gains unfortunately. I didn't realize how worn out the valve guides were on the used head, so this thing smoked worse than a blue hair on a penny slot in Reno. (thanks finnegan lol) The engine had a much more powerful rumble however and was significantly louder. The GX160 this head came off of had 2-3mm smaller valves also, so I would expect some losses on the top end.

As far as being a good budget option, I'd for sure say yes. If you can get a good used one or a cheap new one you're set. Little bit of porting and polishing and you're good for at least some torque.

This is the only big valve head I know of. Kinda pricey, but mostly complete.

ISSUE #1
By changing the head, your hemi engine is no longer a hemi; as far as Chrysler engines go (& one would assume the same for the Predator), the term "Hemi", short for hemispherical, refers to the shape of the combustion chamber which, allegedly, increases flow through the head...

ISSUE #2
The head on a GX160 & a GX200 are the same & one would assume a hemi head would be around the same volume; as I explained in this thread, you'd need the smaller volume GX140 head fitted with GX200 valves which you would need to do yourself (or by someone who knows how) as opposed to buying said head already fitted with larger valves...

The simpler way to increase compression is to shave the head & block deck...

Are you doing this on the cheap cheap?

Just get a RTC9 head and mill it down to what you want.
I don't know if this site has any in stock but they are listed cheap on this site.

Or just buy a second Predator (a 730 model) and swap the head and pushrods.

And I wouldn't be worried about losing the "hemi" head either, it is just a nostalgia thing, especially on this forum. The block has a great bottom end but the head is old technology and mostly hype once you start modifying.

I did. It should be here any day now, but I'm not going to post the guys contact info because I don't want to be the reason he gets worn out from endless questions from people who aren't serious buyers. I'll post pics when I get it.

This is what I have so far.
