I picked up this frame and I am starting to build my go kart. I notice that the drive shaft might be welded where it shouldnt be in some places, it wont even turn. I also recently had it sandblasted and painted. HELP! Here are some pics.

Can you see that it is welded. or is the axle just painted to the bearings? Or ar you talking about the steering shaft. again.. too much paint??

OK.....step by step:

#1 : That is the steering shaft, not a drive shaft......

#2: There are just washers welded top and bottom of that sleeve....that is not why it wont turn....it's rusted and frozen in place either inside that sleeve or in the upper. one.....PB Blaster might get it freed up.....

#3: just for future reference.....don't paint anything unless it's working!

:iagree: A pretty good rule is put everything to gether 100% complete. Practically running and driving. Then tear it apart and paint. What you've done if I can be funny, is Wiped your butt and then took a crap.:lolgoku:

Thank you, I didn't even realize about the washers! Now time to try to free it up!

If you remove the lower washer, the shaft should slide out of the mounts (once you break the rust) so it can be cleaned; you still won't be able to remove it from the kart completely but, at least you can free it up...
