I'll keep this to myself...
For some reason only one person has been giving me any responses (thanks souperman000). I really need advice and info. I would like to know the aproximate cost of building a go kart. I want to build a go kart that is reasonably fast, and can tackle some off road trails. It doesn't need to be too fancy, only functional. Please help. Any info/advice on the parts I should look for.

2 things-Are you building from scratch, partial scratch, or a kit? This kit is about $500-http://gokartsusa.com/azusa3557gokart.aspx Also, what style? Like the style of kart I just showed? With a roll cage? A buggy? And, I would not know the costs in metal if you were to build from scratch. But I would assume around $200-$500 to make a frame if you have the proper equipment. If you then figure in wheels, seat(s), engine (if you don't have one), brakes, and steering, it would probably add about $300-$500 depending on if you go used or not.

I don't know what it would cost from scratch but I know you would save a bunch by buying a used one and fixing it.
I bought a used rolling chassis($60) and I supplied a new motor($130), centifugal clutch($50), replaced wheel bearings and drive shaft bearings, driven sprocket and hub, chain($80), paint($30), cables and brake.($45)
Thats just shy of $400.
You add wheels a seat, steel and all the other goodies you'd probably be up in the $700-$900 range.

Yeah, you could probably find a rolling chassis used between $100-$200 dollars. Fixing it up, adding an engine and clutch, would probably put you between $400-$500.

I would definitely go with the second if you are not looking to do any major work.

You could get bigger tires for it as long as the rims fit, and you adjust the gearing accordingly.

The first one will need alot of work. I don't think you can make the first one into the kind of cart the second one is for under $300.
Plus the second one has a Honda motor.

I think there is a bigger question. What are your skills in building things and what kind of tools do you have to build?

Because it's a total crapshoot- we're not a huge community- it depends on who's on, who notices your post, who feels they can answer your questions, and sometimes- we will see that someone is "taking care of you" so others will hang back and stay out of the way.

I strongly suggest you take a good, long look through this forum- checking out old threads, making good use of the search feature. You'd be amazed how much info is buried in this forum!

With regards to costs- resourcefulness and budget are inversely proportionate. The more you have of one, the less you need of the other. My kids kart cost me about $200, including a brand new engine and clutch. Lots of searching, collecting, scavenging, patience, fabrication. On the other hand, with a fat checkbook you can buy a truckload of off-the-shelf parts that will all bolt together with total effort not exceeding a paintjob.
